Category Management is a distributor/supplier process of managing categories as strategic business units, producing enhanced business results by focusing on delivering consumer value.
Weekly data is collected for 29 Front of Store categories from over 40,000 outlets representing multiple channels of retail outlets, including auto parts, mass, club and military exchange. These outlets are estimated to cover roughly 80% of all DIY transactions. All participants send their POS data to NPD who collects, compiles, aggregates and publishes the data. This, along with various other data sources, is the data that is used to realize optimal benefits from Category Management process.
