“Right to Repair Act” Gains 14 More Supporters
19 Co-Sponsors Support H.R. 2694

BETHESDA, MD – July 30, 2007 – Congressional support for the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act of 2007 (H.R. 2694) has reached 19 co-sponsors, it was announced today by Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).  The proposed legislation has gained 14 new co-sponsors in recent weeks.

“We want to thank the 14 new co-sponsors for supporting this vital piece of legislation that benefits every car owner and small independent repair shop,” said Schmatz.  “The growing cosponsor list for the Right to Repair Act demonstrates the commitment by many members of Congress to ensuring that their constituents, and not the large car companies, retain the ability to choose where to have their vehicle serviced and repaired.”

The 14 new legislators supporting the “Right to Repair Act” are Reps. Corrine Bordallo (D-GU), Robert Brady (D-PA), Corrine Brown (D-FL), Julia Carson (D-IN), Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO), Danny Davis (D-IL), Bob Etheridge (D-NC), Steven LaTourette (R-OH), Barbara Lee (D-CA), John Lewis (D-GA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Mike McIntyre (D-NC), Collin Peterson (D-MN), Pete Stark (D-CA) and Ed Whitfield (R-KY).
