The Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) presented the 2009 Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award to Federal-Mogul Corporation in recognition of their support for industry training and education as evidenced by the company’s Technical Education Center in St. Louis. Federal-Mogul received this honor on November 1st at AWDA’s 2009 Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
The Art Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award is presented annually to an aftermarket company or individual that demonstrates outstanding commitment to education and training, either within their own company or throughout the industry. Given in memory of former AWDA chairman Art Fisher, the award grants substantial scholarships in the name of the award winner to two students enrolled in the automotive aftermarket management program at Northwood University.
Over the years, training and education has become synonymous with the F-M brand. This commitment is exemplified by the 30,000-square-foot Technical Education Center which opened in St. Louis in 1973. Countless technicians have been trained and re-trained there, beginning with ‘Wheel to Wheel Security’ and extending to professional training on the entire range of F-M products. The facility is large enough to accommodate everything from passenger cars and light trucks, to heavy-duty trucks and tractors.
In addition to its focus on technical training, Federal-Mogul is also a solid supporter of the Sloan Family Building at Northwood University and over the years has routinely populated the University of the Aftermarket’s 2010 and Leadership 2.0 programs with their own employees.
Federal-Mogul has been an exemplary participant in our industry as a member of AWDA for over 60 years and AAIA for over 85 years. The company has for many years been represented on the University of the Aftermarket Foundation Board.
“Who else in our aftermarket provides this type of educational support for our technicians?” asked Federated Auto Parts’ Larry Pavey in presenting the award, adding that, “Moreover, in spite of difficult financial times in the early 2000’s, F-M never abandoned its support of training in our industry.”
Mike Lambert, President of the Automotive Distribution Network added, “I’ve been in the industry for over 35 years and have seen numerous training offerings during that time. I cannot think of a company more deserving of this honor for the years of training they have provided to our industry.”
